Maui Divers withdraws its Hilo Hattie bid

HONOLULU (AP) - Maui Divers Jewelry has withdrawn its $1 million offer to buy Hilo Hattie, a major retailer of Hawaiian souvenirs and aloha attire, out of bankruptcy. The announcement came Tuesday after Maui Divers entered into an agreement to remain the sole jewelry concessionaire at Hilo Hattie's seven island stores.

Nishiki offers bill to ban shark tours

WAILUKU - Maui County has no tours available for visitors to plunge into the ocean and watch sharks cruise by from the safety of submerged cages. And Maui County Council Member Wayne Nishiki wants to make sure such an activity doesn't come here.

Fun on wheels, in the air

Calvin Hill, 11, of Kahului, catches air off a jump while working on his skills with friends at Keopuolani Skate Park on Monday morning in Wailuku. "I feel like I'm floating," he said of the experience. Calvin, who has been skating for seven years, said he tries to come to the skate park every day and said his favorite part is the excitement of learning new tricks.

Times to take over Star Markets

QSI Inc., the parent company of Times Supermarkets, will purchase Star Markets' seven locations, including stores on Maui in Kihei and Honokowai. The financial terms were not disclosed. The transaction is expected to close in early September. Times, founded in 1949, has not previously operated on the Neighbor Islands.
