Inouye: Federal funding set for Kahului Airport, health clinics in county

WAILUKU - A project to install a new runway lighting system at Kahului Airport has received more than $533,000 in federal money while community health clinics in Maui County have been granted more than $2 million, according to U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye.
Money for the airport project came from the U.S. Department of Transportation, which also awarded $1.
Small drop in water use Upcountry after drought is declared

WAILUKU - Upcountry water use dropped from an average of 8.7 million gallons per day a week earlier to 8.23 mgd in the week following the Department of Water Supply's declaration of a drought watch for the region.
The June 25 declaration led to a request for Upcountry residents and businesses to voluntarily reduce their water consumption by 5 percent.

2010 elections part of Paniolo Parade

WAILUKU - It's more than a year before the next round of Maui County elections, but former Mayor Alan Arakawa isn't waiting any longer.
In an interview with The Maui News on Friday, Arakawa said he will make an unofficial announcement today at the 44th annual Paniolo Parade in Makawao that he will run for mayor in 2010.
