OLOWALU - Three people escaped without serious injury from a fiery early-morning crash Thursday that destroyed a car on Honoapiilani Highway in Olowalu, police said.
Police are investigating speed and alcohol as factors in the crash, which occurred near Olowalu Stor.

MEO aims for 2010 to break ground on $9M transit center

PUUNENE - Maui Economic Opportunity Inc. will likely break ground for construction of its new $9 million transportation center sometime in 2010, the nonprofit's executive director, Sandy Baz, said on Tuesday.
Baz said the project's planning and design phase is nearly complete, and the Maui County Land Use Committee will host a final hearing on the project in Septembe.

LANAI MAN STABLE AFTER TREE INCIDENT
LANAI CITY - A 55-year-old Lanai City man was in stable condition at an Oahu hospital Wednesday, two days after he was injured when a large tree branch fell on him, police said.
