Panel reviews Honua’ula development compliance

WAILUKU - A year after its approval, the controversial Honua'ula housing and golf course development in South Maui is moving slowly with a required environmental impact statement and the hiring of several consultants and consulting firms. The project came before the County Council's Planning Committee Monday as it reviewed a mandatory annual compliance report by Honua'ula's developers.

Damaged cable leaves some speechless

WAILUKU - A contractor doing work on Haleakala Ranch land damaged fiber-optic lines Monday morning, disrupting emergency 911 calls, phone and Internet service for Maui residents, county offices, major resort hotels and businesses. Pat Bustamante, president of Pacific LightNet, said the damage to a conduit containing fiber-optic cables happened around 9 a.m.
