Senior projects give students a chance to explore their interests

LAHAINA - This was supposed to be a "cruise" year for seniors at Lahainaluna High School.
Instead, the 234 students in the Class of 2009 were tasked with creating and completing the first generation of senior projects at the school in a program that, beginning next year, will be an optional program available to seniors at all Hawaii public schools.
Kula car crash starts house fire

KULA - A car that crashed into a vacant house on Lower Kula Road on Saturday afternoon apparently rammed a propane tank, setting both the car and the house on fire and leaving one person critically injured.
The fire at 4078 Lower Kula Road was reported around 5 p.m.

Crowds of people wait in line to enjoy some of the Filipino culinary treats available at the event.
The three-day event, which celebrates Filipino food and culture, continues at War Memorial Complex through today. It is an annual event.

Kula car crash starts house fire

KULA -- One person was critically injured when a car crashed into a home on Lower Kula Road around 5 p.m. Saturday afternoon, setting both the car and house on fire.
The car apparently struck a propane tank, said county spokeswoman Mahina Martin. Firefighters had the blaze under control but were still working to extinguish it Saturday evening.
