* Community / Balcony. Maui County fully funded a $183,000 project to repair structural damage to the Cameron Center auditorium balcony. A story published April 1 on Page D3 gave the wrong source of funding based on information provided to The Maui News.

Schools, offices to close Good Friday
WAILUKU - Schools, public libraries, and state and county offices will close Friday in observance of Good Friday.
Regular curbside trash pickup will continue in Maui County, however.
Holiday landfill hours will be: 6 a.m. to noon at the Central Maui Landfill, 9 a.m. to noon at the Olowalu Recycling & Refuse Convenience Center, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Legislators review hospital oversight options

WAILUKU - A move to transfer the state's community hospitals, including Maui Memorial Medical Center, back into the hands of the Hawaii Department of Health was called "terrible public policy" by Maui state Sen. Roz Baker.
Baker, who represents West and South Maui residents, said the proposed legislation stemmed from an attempt by the Legislature to micromanage state hospitals.
Radio ads attack Bertram

WAILUKU - The Hawaii Republican Party has enlisted the help of a nationally known child safety advocate for radio ads against South Maui state Rep. Joe Bertram III.
The GOP ads come a week after Bertram, a Democrat, urged leniency in 2nd Circuit Court for a friend who was sentenced for using the Internet to arrange sexual contact with someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl.
Agency officials pledge change

WAILUKU - Maui Humane Society officials said they will respond to issues raised at the agency's annual meeting and will begin making changes recommended in an investigation spurred by the departure of longtime animal control director Aimee Anderson.
