Kiwanis meet postponed to March 21

WAILUKU - Saturday's rainy weather caused the postponement of the Maui County Kiwanis Intermediate School Track and Field meet to March 21.
Events are scheduled to begin at 8:15 a.m. at Yamamoto Track and Field Facility.

Paris Hilton has a different love interest. In a new posting on a celebrity blogste , Paris has referred Dough Reinhardt, with whom she was spotted with on the island of Maui earlier this week, as "my sexy boy."
Judge denies scuba instructor’s Makena Landing appeal

WAILUKU - A Maui scuba instructor's request that Makena Resort be prevented from blocking him and other commercial users from Makena Landing was denied by a 2nd Circuit judge Friday.
Judge Joseph Cardoza denied Maui Sun Divers owner Bobby Baker's motion for a preliminary injunction against Makena Resort and developer Everett Dowling.
Judge: Removal of councilman not up to court

WAILUKU - An effort by a group of Lanai residents to block Council Member Sol Kaho'ohalahala from serving on the Maui County Council was thrown out Friday by 2nd Circuit Judge Joseph Cardoza.
Cardoza said the proper way for citizens to seek the removal of a county elected official they believe should not be in office was through impeachment or recall.
North winds bring chilly weather to the isles

WAILUKU - North winds on Thursday and Friday brought the chilly nights that have caused island residents to huddle under blankets, but residents could get some warmer weather with a shift in wind direction.
On Thursday, the high at Kahului Airport reached only 71 degrees, and Molokai was only one degree warmer.
Ceremony honors Mauians killed in Iraq, Afghanistan

WAILUKU - Family, friends and veterans paid tribute Friday to Maui's four fallen soldiers in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The county's elected officials and Hawaii's congressional delegation reminded everyone of the importance to show gratitude to those serving in the armed forces and to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
Mayor’s budget avoids tax hikes

WAILUKU - The cover photo on Maui County's 2-inch-thick fiscal year 2010 budget packet was a symbolic choice, a rare silversword plant thriving on the volcanic rock of Haleakala, Mayor Charmaine Tavares said Friday.
"We're still growing even though we're in some not-so-great soil," she said.
