‘So bold’:?Felon waits week, offends again

WAILUKU - Seven days after he was placed on probation in a felony case, a Wailuku man committed another crime by forging a $4,800 check.
"That is so bold," 2nd Circuit Judge Richard Bissen said Wednesday as he sentenced Tijen Jibok. "You thought you could just walk out of a courtroom and a week later commit another felony.
Students, parents crowd school for reading night

KIHEI - Kihei Elementary students and parents are packing in by the hundreds to launch the first Read Aloud America program on Maui.

WAILUKU - Former Kihei resident Melissa Torres is the new morning traffic anchor for a CBS affiliate in Las Vegas.
The 25-year-old Maui High School graduate had her television start as a reporter and co-anchor of the former "On Maui" newsmagazine show on local cable television about five years ago.
Now she's on television every weekday morning on KLAS' "Eyewitness News This Morning.
It was a good year for Turtles

It was a record year for successful turtle nests in 2008. The turtles, both hawksbills and greens, arrived early and stayed late.
So late, that at Thanksgiving, Skippy Hau of the Aquatic Resources Division of the Department of Land and Natural Resources, had to dig up a green sea turtle's nest at Spreckelsville to save the hatchlings from high surf.
