Bail amount increases in murder case

WAILUKU - Based on information that a murder suspect wouldn't be able to return to his longtime job, 2nd Circuit Judge Joel August on Friday increased bail to $350,000 for a Kahului man charged with shooting to death his 19-year-old son.
Joe D. Antonio, 45, who is also known as Jose Antonio Sr., is being held at Maui Community Correctional Center.
Height limit ordered for Maui Lani

WAILUKU - Saying former Mayor Alan Arakawa had "no authority" to exempt Maui Lani subdivisions from current building height requirements, 2nd Circuit Judge Joel August granted an order that prohibits Maui County from issuing building permits that conflict with the current height limits in two Maui Lani projects.
New council takes office amid economic uncertainty

WAILUKU - With plenty of fuzzy goodwill, hearty hugs - and enough lei to obscure a few faces - the new Maui County Council was sworn in Friday.
However, the festive atmosphere was tempered by an undercurrent of uncertainty about the economy as 2nd Circuit Judge Shackley Raffetto swore in the nine council members for their two-year terms.

Judge rules height limits apply to Maui Lani

WAILUKU -- A Maui Circuit Court judge has ordered Maui County to apply an existing grading law to two Maui Lani subdivisions, saying that former Mayor Alan Arakawa had no authority to waive the law affecting the two projects.
