Two arrested in connection with Wailuku burglary

WAILUKU - Officers arrested two men who were implicated in a burglary Friday of an Iao Parkside apartment in Wailuku, police said.
The suspects were identified as Travis Nishioka, 20, of Wailuku, and Kinslow Kekaha-Cayaban, 18, who has no local address.
The burglary occurred between 5 and 5:44 p.m.
‘Inspirational force’ dies

PAIA - Rene Sylva, the first person to champion the preservation of native Hawaiian endemic plants, died Sunday at his family home on Paia Bay. He was 79.
Sylva - a charter member of the Native Hawaiian Plant Society and a mentor to many isle individuals and groups involved in environmental work - was hailed by peers as an "amazing, forward-thinking" conservationist.
Nene struck and killed on road in Haleakala National Park

MAKAWAO - An adult nene was killed Sunday morning after it was hit by a motorist within Haleakala National Park, officials said. And officials say the incident points to the need for park visitors to drive cautiously and avoid feeding the endangered animals.
The death happened between 7 and 7:15 a.m.
Supply ample for sashimi

KAHULUI - Local fish market owners agree there is an ample supply of sashimi this year.
But they disagree when it comes to prices, as some say fish is cheaper this year than last while others say prices are still running high.
On Tuesday, prices ranged from $18 per pound for grade 2 ahi sashimi to $22.99 per pound for grade 1, the highest grade.
