Maui County Council Candidates for Maui County Council were required to file preliminary reports on General Election fundraising and spending by Friday. The reports are current through Oct. 20 and date from the start of the election period in 2006. Totals may not be exact, due to rounding of numbers.

Baisa ’shocked’ at campaign total

WAILUKU - State and county candidates made their final push to raise - and spend - campaign funds as they closed in on Election Day. County Council Member Gladys Baisa said she was "shocked" to learn she'd raised $59,068 since the start of her campaign, and spent $55,911. She said she hadn't talked with her campaign treasurer before the finance reports came out.

Superferry draft EIS delayed

KAHULUI - The release of a draft environmental impact statement on state harbors improvements to accommodate the Hawaii Superferry has been delayed until January because the Superferry has changed its operational plans, state transportation officials said Friday. The draft EIS was to have been completed by October.

Reduced crowds have businesses in town Spooked

LAHAINA - - The day after Maui County tamped down the annual Lahaina Halloween bash, it was local business owners who said they were feeling a financial hangover. The crowds came out for certain, and the party was on. But most veteran costumed revelers, merchants and police estimated attendance to be about a third to a half fewer people than in recent years.
