Island TV broadcasters going digital on Jan. 15

In the interest of endangered native birds who nest atop Haleakala, the Hawaii Association of Broadcasters says its members will switch to digital broadcasting on Jan. 15, a month ahead of a federal deadline. On Maui, an estimated 5 percent of households rely on over the air signals. The remainder get their TV via cable or satellite dish.
