WAILUKU - The state Department of Human Services plans to build a residential shelter for "at-risk" boys in Wailuku to open early next year.

WAILUKU - A Kihei man is being held without bail after being charged with attempted murder for allegedly trying to run down a police officer and repeatedly ramming his police car during a 15-mile chase that ended when the suspect's car went off a Kahakuloa cliff Friday night.

ML&P’s Honolua workers out of job

Workers at Maui Land & Pineapple Co.'s Honolua plantation will lose their jobs as part of the company's reorganization, but exactly what that will mean for the future of the plantation remained unclear Monday.
ML&P spokeswoman Teri Freitas Gorman confirmed the layoffs of the fieldworkers in West Maui, but she said: "We have not developed a firm plan to do anything right now" with the plantation.
